Historical Perspective
Posted by Zach Caldwell on July 5th, 2007I just received the following message from Justin:
-
I am going to have to start admitting that I am in shape. I ran a minute faster yesterday than I have in five previous attempts at that race, and two minutes faster than last year.
After the race both of the guys felt reasonably pleased with themselves. But at the time we thought that Justin wasn’t quite as fast as his fastest time on the course, and we were pretty sure that Kris was a ways off his best. So, now that we know that Justin just crushed his own best time on the course by as much as he crushed Kris, both guys have even more reason to be pleased with the effort. I thought Justin looked like he was running pretty fast. To put it in perspective, Justin was running something like 5:22 miles for the whole (hilly) course, and Kris was running about 5:31s. The “big nasty hill” that I referred to earlier represents about 500 feet of vertical in a couple of miles, with most of the climbing coming in the second mile.
